Mi-Pay are mobile payment specialists and are well versed in NFC (Near Field Communication) technology and the use of 2D barcodes either displayed or read from mobile phones.
Both services have been used at a commercial scale in Japan for some years. although there was little interest with consumers outside that region. However, with companies such as Visa and Mastercard now promoting contactless credit/debit cards through a Europe-wide media campaign, NFC might finally be moving into the main stream.
Our partners at Masabi have developed an open standard 2D technology used by Mi-Pay that has recently been accepted as a mobile ticketing standard for the UK rail industry. Mi-Pay's main area of interest in NFC is the potential use of the mobile phone as a Point of Sale (POS) device across developing markets, reading NFC enabled stickers or National ID cards used as one method of providing authentication for consumers undertaking various financial transactions.
We at Mi-Pay have a great deal of collective expertise in this field and are happy to advise on any potential contactless payment services with clients.
